January Travels

January 2012,

One of the things I love about homeschooling is the freedom to explore. We live in such a great country with heaps of places of interest to go exploring in.

Living in a new area is also great as this just means there is more to go and see. New places to see and new things to be learnt.

Mt. Pilot National Park

Early January we took a drive to Mt. Pilot National Park. There are some great Aboriginal site to have a look at, which we plan to go back and spend some more time looking at these.

We walked to the top of Mount Pilot and there we discovered what could be seen as one of the most boring jobs, but a job of worth non the less.

This guy has to sit up in his box from 11am to 7pm and watch for smoke. Its a great view, but still I think it would be mind numbing job.

I don't think the fire watcher would have seen this little guy from up in his tower.

Woolshed falls

A very popular place to cool off, but also well known by the locals as a death trap. It was only a few weeks ago that these falls claimed another life. Needless to say we just looked and did not play. The photo doesn't really do justice for how steep the water is falling.

Power's lookout

Harry Power was a gentleman bushranger???? Does gentleman and bushranger belong in the same sentance? Anyway according to the information board Harry Power was polite bushranger. The lookout is where he would take cover and keep an eye on what was happening. It is also the place that he was caught in the early hours of the morning of June 5th, 1870. Because of the stock of food he had, the police where able to have hearty breakfast before taking him to the Wangaratta to be locked up. Power is also known for teaching some of the tricks of the trade to Ned Kelly. Here is the view from the picnic area.

You take a bit of a short walk to get to his lookout. Short but a bit steep. He certainly would have had to been careful walking around the rocks.

But the views are well worth it.

The Definition of Futile

Wed 11th January 2012

What is your definition of futile.

We have these mini tumble weed things, not sure what their correct name is, so mini tumble weeds does well. They are a grass seed that float around effortlessly in the wind. We have a few that we have faithfully been raking and placing in the bin, but you have to stop and ask your self," Should I bother?"

Thursday 5th, we arrive home after a lovely picnic tea to this.

We mowed and raked and cleared away the majority.

Monday 9th, we arrive home once again to discover this.....

They get mowed.

Wed 11th January, 12pm

The wind has just been blowing and blowing and with fear of getting a letter from the real estate, I was once again out mowing until the mower had run out of juice. Then  by 6pm.......

And after a phone call at 7:30 with a local who informed me that before we moved in it was up to the eaves, I think I found my new definition of futile.

Family Time

December 2001

Part of the reason for moving was to be closer to family, so it was time for a visit. Be it ever so quick, we managed to see everyone. First stop at the middle Brothers House.
Master F.

Master L.

Master L with his Mum and Dad. My middle little Brother

Miss E with Miss E. They get on so well.
Second stop was at Older Little Brothers House. Nothing like a run under the sprinkler on a hot day. Miss E and Miss K decided they had had enough so its just Master R in the photo's

Time for Santa to make his debut.

Trying to get a photo of the cousins together proved tricky, not everyone wanted to stand on the same rocks.

This is as close as I got with them together.
Youngest Little Brother then showed up and after much giggling like a little school girl announced he was getting a ball and chain.
The happy couple.
Then it was off to see the inlaws. The cousins all had a blast together. Finally got them all together for 30 seconds to get a photo.

One of the best things about where we are now living we get see my grandparents. Something we havn't been able to do very much at all.

My Lightning Quest

21st December 2011

Since getting my camera, the one thing that I have longed to capture is.....Lightning.

After missing the show while down in Gippsland, last night I got a chance from our front verandah to have another attempt. The photos that follow are some of the better ones that where taken at about 10pm.
